Just a few days back we told you that Amazon is working on its own smartphone that is supposed to be a direct challenge to Apple’s iPhone. The phone is said to run on Google’s Android mobile operating system. According to a new report, Amazon is serious about these plans and is said to be already in talks with component suppliers based in Asia in order to test the smartphone, and simultaneously expand its mobile device portfolio. But there is yet no news on when this Amazon smartphone will hit the market.
The report went on to say that the screen of the Amazon smartphone that is currently undergoing testing measures around 4-5 inches. It is rumored that Apple too is planning to increase the screen size of the next iPhone from the existing 3.5 to 4 inches. Thus, a 4-inch Amazon smartphone will not only compete with Apple’s iPhone, but also Samsung Galaxy S III.
Chinese mobile maker Foxconn International Holdings Ltd. is currently working with the internet retail giant for creating this handset. Interestingly, this is not exactly the first time that the internet retail giant has intruded into Apple’s territory. Just last year, Amazon had successfully released its Kindle Fire, which managed to eat into the Apple iPad’s share of the market.
