Smartphones are getting much more advanced than before and Samsung Galaxy S3 seems to be the most advanced smartphone running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. So far the device has sold over 20 million units since its release in just 100 days, leaving behind other Samsung and Android based devices such as HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S2.
Analysts have pointed out few reasons that have made Galaxy S3 that much popular device. First, it runs with Google’s Android operating system, which itself is the most popular operating system and second, it has all the features of a high end smartphone, packed with Super AMOLED display along with Exynos ARM Cortex quad-core processor. And to make it even better Galaxy S3 also supports Long Term Evolution (LTE) in United States because of the courtesy of three carriers Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint.
But by the end of 2012 Samsung Galaxy S3 will be facing a new rival, the much anticipated Nokia Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 8. Nokia released Lumia 920’s ad in which it manifested the technology used in its camera which showed pretty remarkable results. Nokia Lumia 920 has blown the smartphone realm and will be available in fourth quarter of this year.
We still do not know much about Nokia Lumia 920 but what we do know is that it is first high end Windows Phone 8 smartphone and it has an amazing HD display called the HD+ which gives you a resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels 4.5 inch display. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy S3 offers 4.8 inch Super AMOLED Pentile display.
For operating system Galaxy S3 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will come in next quarter whereas Nokia Lumia is based on Microsoft’s latest operating system called Windows Phone 8 which support very limited number of apps. Instagram and some top games such as Temple Run or the latest Angry Birds will not be available on Lumia 920. So you are not an app geek then Nokia Lumia 920 is a better option for you and if not then go for Galaxy S3.
When it comes to camera Nokia certainly has the upper hand. Nokia Lumia 920 is packed with 8.7 megapixel camera which sports PureView branding, giving much better picture quality than Samsung Galaxy S3. Whereas Galaxy S3 offers 8 megapixel rear camera which sometimes gives autofocus issues but Jelly Bean update is said to address this issue.
As for design the Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Galaxy S3 are a bit same. Nokia Lumia 920 is made up of glossy single polycarbonate piece whereas Samsung’s back cover is made up of such material.
Samsung Galaxy S3 will now be hitting United States and other parts of the world and as for Nokia Lumia 920; hopefully it will be available by the end of 2012, possibly in November. And it is touted to have LTE support as well but it has certainly shaken the smartphone world with its super HD+ display and remarkable camera. Apple’s iPhone is also around the corner.
